According to modern timing, the soldiers took Jesus to the High Priest’s palace at the “cockcrow” hour of 3:00 am (Mk 13:35). The rearing of poultry within Jerusalem was not permitted because of purity concerns. According to scholars, “cockcrow” was the usage of an official siren at 3:00 am for a shift change of soldiers, before which Peter denied Jesus three times.
