Jesus followed Jewish Practices

JESUS AND JEWISH PRACTICES

Jesus used to attend synagogue service regularly, even when he disagreed with some of their practices. His parents followed all Jewish practices in Jesus’ life. They circumcised Jesus on the eighth day (Lk 2:21) and presented Jesus in the temple (Lk 2:22-40). When Luke, the Evangelist, presents the event of finding the missed child Jesus in the temple at 12, he says: “Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover” (Lk 2:41).

REFLECTION

We may disagree with the church practices or the ecclesiastical authorities. We might be right or wrong. However, that should not hinder our relationship with God and the church Jesus established. Let us cooperate with the church and present our disagreements maturely without hurting others. That will help us correct ourselves or others.
