Way of the Lord

WAY OF THE LORD

John the Baptist preached the Way of the Lord: “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” (Mk 1:2). The way of the Lord is not the worldly highway that we use for transportation. It is a passage for holy people to reach the Holy Place of God. “There will be a highway which will be called the Way of Holiness; no one unclean will pass through it, nor will any wicked fool stray into it” (Isa 35:8).

Jesus taught, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and those who enter through it are many. How narrow the gate and constricted the road that leads to life. And those who find it are few” (Mt 7:13-14). This might seem in contrast to Isaiah’s and John’s way which stands for the Messiah as the way to the Father. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6). However, as part of our following Jesus, we have opt the sacrificial life for the gospel making Jesus as our model.

REFLECTION

Jesus opened the gates of heaven for us making himself as the way to the Father. Along with our faith in Jesus, we must practice it in our daily lives, especially in our dealing with others.
